Evolving collections & services -- July 2012

July 2012 | Volume 10 | Number 2

Evolving the library’s collections and services not only takes into account new technology, but also technology that’s new to you and your organization.

Many librarians are examining e-book models for their digital libraries. If you’re one of them, you’ll be interested in the articles describing implementations and analysis undertaken by authors at institutions in Hong Kong, Italy and the US.

Digital libraries are also influencing learning environments and librarian roles. Read Choy Fatt Cheong’s account of how the use cases for social media are expanding, how Jenn Stringer is turning her librarian lens on content, and about Alexander Belov’s five-year electronic library project. And don’t forget Heidi Zuniga’s checklist, a reminder that we are all walking repositories whose knowledge should be cataloged!

Lastly, the charts on page 11 summarize technology-related findings from a librarian community. I invite you to take a look and find out how your experiences compare.
