Robert J. Hanisch
Robert J. Hanisch is a Senior Scientist at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), Baltimore, Maryland, and is the Director of the US Virtual Astronomical Observatory. In the past 20 years he has led many efforts in the astronomy community in the area of information systems and services, focusing particularly on efforts to improve the accessibility and interoperability of data archives and catalogs. He has long had interests in linking professional journal articles with the underlying data, and has served as chair of the American Astronomical Society Publications Board. He is currently president of Commission 5: Documentation and Data, of the International Astronomical Union. He completed his Ph.D. in Astronomy in 1981 at the University of Maryland, College Park.
