Donna Kafel, RN, MLIS, is the Project Coordinator for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine New England Region sponsored e-Science program based at the Lamar Soutter Library, University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Kafel coordinates the annual University of Massachusetts and New England Area Librarian e-Science Symposia, the New England Science Boot Camp for Librarians, and manages the e-Science Portal for New England Librarians and the e-Science Community blog.
From 2010 to2011, Kafel managed an IMLS National Leadership Planning Grant in which the libraries at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute partnered to develop Frameworks for a Data Management Curriculum. Building upon the Frameworks project, Kafel serves as co-coordinator for the New England Collaborative Data Management Curriculum. She is a co-instructor in the Scientific Data Management class at Simmons College School of Library and Information Sciences and serves as a special issue editor for the Journal of eScience Librarianship.
