Augusta Rohrbach is the Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives in the Office of the Vice Provost for Research at Tufts University.
She is an experienced author, editor and administrator, committed to the evolution of knowledge production in its various iterations. Prior to coming to Tufts, she was tenured at Washington State University where she was Editor-in-Chief of ESQ: A Journal of the American Renaissance.
She is the author of Truth Stranger Than Fiction: Race, Realism and the US Literary Marketplace (Palgrave, 2002), completed while a Bunting Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Research. In 2014, she published Thinking Outside the Book (UMass), began while she was a jointly appointed fellow at the W.E.B. DuBois Institute and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Thinking Outside the Book uses 19th century literary history to engage 21st century theories of the book and of literacy generally. Her essays have appeared in American Literature, Callaloo, New England Quarterly, and Prospects as well as several collections.
