ScienceDirect College Edition gains content and flexibility

ScienceDirect College EditionIn 2005, Elsevier launched the ScienceDirect College Edition, created for two- to four-year colleges. At that time this was new territory for Elsevier, and the offering was received with enthusiasm.

Recently, college-based customers have expressed a desire for more complete access to ScienceDirect. Some librarians have experienced a growing demand for high-level scientific information, while others are intrigued by the expansion of ScienceDirect into relatively new areas, like eBooks.

In response to these demands, an extended version of the ScienceDirect College Edition has been created. Starting with the 2009 subscription year, the College Edition includes access to pre-1995 journal content and includes eBooks, handbooks and book series in addition to major reference works.

To provide as much flexibility as possible, college-based customers can now choose from these new subscription agreement options:

The ScienceDirect College Edition is an access-only model (with no archival rights after subscription cancellation) and is based on a calendar year subscription. It’s available to colleges that teach up to a master's level, do not award degrees at a doctoral level, are not involved with research and do not have research centers. end of article
